Quinta dos Carqueijais

The Trail of Geira, a footpath of short route (SR), of historic and landscaping context, presents an extension of 9.5 km, with a duration of 4 hours, with an average degree of difficulty. This route stretches through the agricultural paths of the parishes of Chorense and Balança, which contain historical remains of both tourist and cultural high interest. This interest comes mainly from the existence of marks of Roman activity, Geira and Miles: XV, in a place called Cantos or Bico da Geira, XVI in Penedo dos Teixugos, XVII near the riverside of Cabaninhas, XVIII Mutatio Saliniana, in Chãos de Vilar. The set of milestones together in those miles patent epigraphy to honour the emperors of that time.

The interest from the same region can obviously be extended to the architectural environment of the typical villages in granite, where a very welcoming rural environment subsists, and also to the physical and natural environment that is easily noticeable in many places of the trail.
